Internet Thieves and Facebook Pirates
Janice is the social media expert in our relationship. She is the one who dragged me onto Facebook kicking and screaming. She is the one who put together our fan page. She is the one who sets up the apps that import this blog onto our page. She is the one who sets the clock on the microwave (Nobody has a VCR anymore!) when the power goes out.
Today she called me over to her computer to show me something. I could tell she was irritated by the tone in her voice. What she showed me had me a little bit peeved as well. I am usually the calm one in our marriage.

She wrote this...
It seems that she friend requested someone a few months back who never accepted her invitation. She explained to me that once a person is friend requested, they have access to view your account, regardless of whether or not they accept you as a friend.
She was drawn back to this person's page because they used the exact same verbiage for a status update that she had used about 30 minutes prior. Thinking it was a strange coincidence, she went to his home page. What she found was disturbing to say the least - he had completely stolen several updates that she had made and he actually copied and pasted a section of her bio into his own page! Since he never accepted her friend request, his friends never knew that he had stolen the content!

and he posted this.
How pathetic is it that someone can't even write their own original bio? Since Facebook is the equivalent to a digital version of the wild west, there isn't much anyone can do but What the HECK?!
I am sure that he isn't the only one doing this sort of thing. How are you guys dealing with this type of behavior?

It hasn't (seemingly) affected me as I am still in the process of developing the Facebook page/profile and still acquiring the skills and knowledge to import my AR content to FB. (BTW, does Janice have any tutorials on this subject or offer advice?).
The piracy doesn't surprise me but the boldness exercised does. I'm hoping you sent the 'thief' and the FB Staff a message. Seems like a COE complaint may be in his future.
What's amazing is that most folks, when asked, will often agree to sharing certain data or content. I suppose some of us actually have a conscience and a strong regard for ethics.
I just purchased Facebook for Dummies from Amazon for me and one for my sister....I'll do some reading before I go any further into Facebook
Sad when people have to steal someone else's life because they apparently have nothing to offer on their own. I think I would call them out on it.
I gave up FB back in January in favor of putting my efforts into Active Rain. I beleive I'm better off for it.
I would call them on it. Tell them you are flattered they want to emulate you, but please go get a life of your own.
