The Green Haus in Vancouver Washington

The Green Haus in Vancouver Washington
Vancouver wa homes
The 2008 Clark Parade of Homes in Vancouver Washington is lucky enough to have one of the first LEED Gold certified homes in its line up.

The "Green Haus" was built by Axiom Luxury Homes specifically for the Parade of Homes. I had the opportunity to walk through it last week and I can tell you that living "Green" in a sustainably built home doesn't mean that you will have to make any sacrifices.

This gorgeous home sports Eldorado Stone accents, Skirl siding with cedar trim, cedar board and bat, and pervious pavers to mitigate rainwater runoff.

The health conscious interior includes non VOC earth toned wall colors, knotty alder woodwork, and a solid Telluride natural stone fireplace.

The living area is nicely finished with a GE Smart House system, structured wiring, theater, and the floors are reclaimed from a 100 year old barn.

In an effort to minimize its impact on the grid, they have included all Energy Star appliances, spray insulation for a better seal, highly insulated windows, and a super high efficiency furnace (95%) and AC vancouver wa real estateunit (16 Seer).

To minimize water usage, this beautiful home is equipped with low flow fixtures, low flow showers, and dual flush toilets.

Here are a few other features that were built in to the high efficiency home:

  • Smaller home with better use of space for a lower environmental impact.
  • No windows on the west and east facing walls for better energy efficiency.
  • Drought tolerant plants and correctly sized irrigation to minimize water needs.
  • Sealed heating-A/C ducts and all ducts in conditioned space.
  • Conditioned crawl space for better indoor air quality and more efficient heating/cooling.
  • Whole house ventilation system for fresh air exchange.
  • Local products, sustainable products, recycled products.
  • Stringent construction methods for quality, cooperation, and durability.vancouver wa real estate
  • Limiting waste from construction and recycling nearly all remnant materials.

As you can see from the specs, there was a lot of careful planning that went into this wonderful Vancouver home. As I walked through the home I noticed that no detail had been overlooked. This is the type of home that fits my definition of a Green Home perfectly:

"A green home is a home that minimizes its use of outside energy, minimizes the pollution that it expels, while maximizing the comfort, health, safety, and wellbeing of its inhabitants. Ultimately it is better for you, better for the earth, and better for your wallet."

Congratulations to the guys at Axiom Luxury Homes. Great job building a beautiful home!

Hi Mark, Great information on this LEED Gold home and congrats to theAxiom luxury homes for achieving this status! It certainly isn't easy to achieve. I am especially interested in the reclaimed floors! They look sweet! This home will certainly give it's new homeowners some great efficiency as well as tremendous indoor air quality!

vancouver wa homes for saleMary - thank you for the comment. The builder is saying that the floors were reclaimed and repurposed from a barn that was dismantled and salvaged. They were resawn, installed, sanded and finished. They look absolutely gorgeous. I was originally concerned about how useable they would be but after walking on them barefoot, I can see that my concerns were unwarranted. They are very comfortable to walk on and the builder assures me that they are durable and easy to care for. Here is another picture:

Hi Mark, I've yet to visit a 'Parade of Homes' house in my area that was green, maybe I just haven't ran into one yet. This one is green and BEAUTIFUL, how great is that? Love those floors too. Thanks for posting!

Mark, while I was visiting this Parade home, two different people were complaining that they had gotten splinters in their feet! I love the concept, but the reality is that I think that those floors are too rough and would be very hard to live with.

Kathy - Thank you for the comment. Hmmmmm, I have been to the Green Haus several times and I hadn't heard that. (I just live just 2 blocks away.) I have walked on the floors barefoot and with socks on without incident but maybe there is a section somewhere that wasn't finished as well. Splinters would surely be a concern!
