Clark County Parade of Homes
The 2008 Clark Parade of Homes in Vancouver Washington is also home the "The Cottage."
This beautiful home was built by Tamarack Homes. In my opinion, this is the greenest home at the parade, just ahead of the "Green Haus" which is located right around the corner.
The "Green-ness" of this European cottage style home comes in several ways. Special attention was paid during planning and construction in order to become LEED certified:
The walls were built using 24" on center studs, allowing more space for insulation as well as using less lumber.
The stucco finish was designed to allow space between the stucco and walls to prevent moisture buildup and airflow.
Meticulous prep work also meant that every cut of lumber was planned out ahead of time for minimal waste.
Aged hardwood floors in the main living areas were custom milled from old reclaimed barn joists.
Of course this beautiful home isn't only focused on being green. The soaring eighteen foot ceilings in the great room add a touch of elegance that anyone would be proud of. The gourmet kitchen is appointed with a WOLF 48" range, double ovens, antiques marble counter tops, an extra large sink, giant pantry, and a special composter and recycle bin. The main floor master suite features ten foot ceilings and decorative leaded glass window custom made by Almega. The European fixtures in the master bath spa were provided by Hans-Grohe and Durvait European Fixtures.
The Clark County Parade runs through September 7, 2008. Hope to see you there!
As an added eco-friendly touch, the landscapers installed raised beds in the garden for growing fruits and veggies!

Haven't I read about this before somewhere else... OH WAIT, that was my future self seeing another blog tomorrow from another agent in Vancouver. (LOL)
Mark, it was interesting observing attendees reaction to this house and it's Green Home features. Most were very pleasantly surprised that a home that was so European in style could still incorporate many green features. I think that many people equate Green Homes to a more austere contemporary style and this house was an eye-opener for them.
Kathy - I agree with you completely. So many people are under the impression that they would need to make sacrifices in order to live an eco friendly lifestyle. This wonderful home is a perfect example of how luxurious homes can be green too.
This was one of my favorite rooms in the house. It is the small bedroom perched up over the top of the garage.
THX for the photos of the raised beds (and he home, too)..I am into edible landscaping ideas and it was neat to see what is happening out there!!! You might want to check out the dorms at Asheville area Warren Wilson College...landscaped with edibles...
Hi Mark - Thanks for the tour of your parade~ It is nice to hear this builder is using advanced framing techniques and minimizing construction waste. That is a very important part of building a green house! I love the raised beds in the landscaping ~ what a very simple idea and a great way to insure that the new homeowner doesn't change planned drainage routes! Thanks for the entry!
Hi Mark, I like the idea of this localism post because it raises awareness of local events and one that is educational at the same time. :) Gorgeous home!
What a beautiful home, Mark!
Mary, Stephanie, Debra, Thank you for the comments!
Mary - To my knowledge, this is one of the first homes in the area to use that technique to frame up the walls. It makes so much sense AND it cuts lumber usage and costs.
Mark,
I remember the day when you came into "The Cottage" and spoke with the builder and I. You said that you were writing an article for your blog or something but I didnt imagine that it would be this. This turned out amazing.
As the preferred lender for this Parade of Homes Project I would like to thank you for your time in keeping us all aware in all of our Green efforts. As you are aware I have the Green Mortgage product that we were advertising to help people purchase these wonderful homes. This product may be beneficial to some of your local readers.
